The latest on my grandpa!

Good morning!!!

The last report was quite positive. A few of my aunts met with the doctor yesterday morning and he is frustrated with the lung and breathing problem but feels that there is still hope for recovery. He is not ready to give up on my grandpa yet and right now grandpa still wants the mask on and the doctor said as long as he is willing to keep it on he is going to keep at working on grandpa. My aunt said that yesterday grandpa began writing when asked something or if he wanted to say something. His mind is clear and seems to in pretty good spirits though they say that he seems to get agitated when family isn't around. Right now they are planning days to have someone there.

My aunt is calling my mom again tonight so I will try and keep you updated.
Thanks for all your prayers!

UPDATE

My mom talked to my Uncle Kevin and he said that they took the breathing tube and the other tube that they had to drain my grandpa's stomach out. Right now he is breathing on his own though he is breathing heavy. The doctors are satisfied at this point. He seems to be resting comfortably.
Thanks for your prayers!
My mom's latest update - see below!
Thank you for your continued prayers. Dad was taken back to ICU on Sunday afternoon and a breathing tube was inserted and he had to be sedated. He hadn't slept for 30 hours and his oxygen levels continued to drop. When the decision was made Dad was very upset and didn't want it done. He has a living will where he states he does not want to be kept alive on machines. It was a very upsetting time for the family. The doctor overrode Dad's refusal because he felt that he was not in a rational frame of mind at the time. They removed the tube yesterday morning about 8:30 and now have a full oxygen mask on and his level are still below normal. They also are giving him a blood transfusion. The ICU doctor just spoke to my brother and sister and said that there is a possibility that they will have to put the breathing tube, etc back in and wanted to know if they felt Dad was coherent enough to give permission and if not that the family may have to make the decision on whether or not they go ahead with procedure again.

Prayer Requests

Dear friends and family-
I have an urgent request - if you could please be praying for my grandpa, (my mom's dad). He hasn't been doing well physically for the past few months and was diagnosed with an Aortic aneurysm . I think if it is 4mm or smaller they leave it alone because the risks of surgery out weigh the risks of the aneurysm. However, my grandpa's was over 8mm and growing, the risk of it bursting was so high that they had to operate. The placement of the aneurysm, forced them to open him completely up like open heart surgery, not their first choice since he is 86 years old.
His heart stopped during surgery and they believe that he has also had another heart attack since the surgery. The surgery went well, and his organs are working, but he is in pain and very restless. He hadn't slept in a couple days and it was hindering his healing, fluid in his lungs and stomach. They decided to sedate him and put a breathing tube in him to help him get some rest and aid in his recovery. The next few days are critical and we would appreciate your prayers for his full recovery. We love you and appreciate your prayer support. There are about 10 other things you can pray for as well but won't take the time with the details right now.....but God knows them :).
