Some renovations
Well this past weekend we started in on doing some renovations. We decided to start with the foyer because it is the smallest room (you know 11 x 11) :) so we could get an idea of what amount of time - money -materials and effort it would be to do some of the other rooms. Plus it would give us some sense of accomplishment.
We started by taking everything off the walls - the nail and screw anchors are all so old that they were made of wood - (they looked like corks for bottles) and they left HUGE holes. So we filled all the holes and Troy had also pulled all the electrical away from the wall (the wiring is all outside the walls due to the age of the house and make). So we filled that area as well to make the wall more even. We then took the crown molding (really just thin wood trim) down from the ceiling and took the nasty flourescent light down - we filled in more holes and then painted the entire celing. We let the spackling dry and then sanded it and reapplied a second coat to the really big holes. We then primed those areas before we painted the entire room a gorgeous color. It is called sauteed mushroom. Kinda a khaki - brownish color. While the walls were finishing up drying we got our new crown molding out - so it is ready to be cut and painted and then we started in on the floor. In one of the other rooms there is this fun green carpet but we pulled up a corner and there was beautiful carpet underneath. Not the case in the foyer....we pulled the carpet up to find - carpet pad and SECURELY placed carpet trim. Then as we pulled up that we found that they had layed vinyl tile over the hardwood floors. LET me rephrase they had GLUED vinyl tile over the hardwood floors. So we spent the next two hours pulling - jamming scrapers and putty knives - kicking them. Quite strenous and probably entertaining to watch. We have most of them up and will try and get the rest of the glue up tonight - put some crown molding up and maybe the second coat of paint. FUN FUN!!

Awesome! Are you going to be able to salvage the hardwood floor or are you guys going to be putting something over the top of it? Wow and 11x11 entry way....that is the size of our whole living room :) What will you do with all that cool space?
We think we will be able to salvage the floors - I sure hope so after all our hard work. The living room is around 2000 square I think. :) that will be our open concept room - living room - dining room - kitchen etc. FUN huh :). You need to come see it.
WOW! Sounds so cool! Cant wait to see it! Will be there in a week and 3 days! :^)
Hey - I love it! I can't wait to see it, would have come tonight, but got a little distracted with stuff to do here. But I would like to come and see the place very soon! Keep up the great work!
